Laura's sessions are tailored to the needs of each client, using a variety of Aquatic Bodywork techniques (including Watsu®, Healing Dance, or Waterdance). She may also pull from her experience with land-based modalities such as Jin Shin Jyutsu and Trigger Point therapy as needed to suit the client's individual circumstances. All sessions are performed in a warm-water pool, with the client gently supported by the practitioner.
What is Watsu?
Watsu® is a unique form of bodywork, originally developed from practicing Shiatsu massage in warm water. The buoyancy and warmth of the water, combined with Watsu’s specialized stretches and massage, help to free the spine, taking pressure off nerves, joints and muscles. The natural movement and flow of the body and breath allow for deep relaxation and release of long-held patterns. The result is increased circulation to every part of the body, improved physical mobility, stress reduction, and greater feelings of overall well-being.
Healing Dance
Healing Dance is a powerful and beautiful technique which combines the freedom and three-dimensionality of Waterdance with the safety and nurturing aspects of Watsu. It utilizes the healing power of movement to resolve physical and emotional blockages.
Waterdance
Waterdance is a dynamic form of aquatic bodywork in which the client, wearing noseclips, is gradually taken underwater. Freed entirely from the bounds of gravity and head support, the body is then able to be stretched and moved in unlimited ways. The effects of Waterdance include deep states of relaxation, profound emotional release, and meditation.
Jin Shin Jyutsu
Jin Shin Jyutsu is the ancient art of harmonizing body, mind and spirit with gentle touch. This simple, yet powerful Japanese art works to restore one’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance. Unlike Western medicine, the emphasis is not on diagnosing, but on harmonizing. The remaining treatment consists of gently holding points in various combinations until complete harmony of energy and pulsation is established within the client.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are responsible for a wide variety of pain in the body. A trigger point is a small contracture in a muscle, a muscle that has 'forgotten' how to relax. It causes both tension and weakness in the muscle. Blood flow stops in the immediate area, sending pain signals to other seemingly unrelated areas of the body. Many conditions diagnosed as bursitis, tendonitis, carpal tunnel, vertigo, and many others, might actually be caused by trigger points. Treatment resets the neurological feedback loop that regulates muscle contraction, thus renewing blood circulation and lengthening contracted muscle fibers. Laura provides Trigger Point therapy with education to help clients take charge of their own pain conditions.
